been forced to recall a popular dining chair that is believed to have severed
parts of people’s toes twice a year.
This furniture brand and retailer has announced a
recall of the “Australian Worx” chair, which is sold nationally between August
2014 and last November after the latest injury. One of the 11 years-old Gold
Coast boy lost part of his toe, three months ago after stubbing his foot on a
Worx chair. According to some of the comical critics of Fantastic Furniture,
this chair is quite deadly.
In addition, a man from Sydney also suffered similar
kinds of injuries in April when he tripped over one of the chairs and he fell
so sharply that he hit the sharp metal edge, which reportedly sliced off his
middle toe. All these cases are not reported for fun. Obviously, hospital
authorities cannot provide incorrect information about the cause of injury,
which are reported by the patients.
It’s very sad to hear the stories when the victims
mention that they are still not able to cope up with the “no toe” feeling.
Keeping in mind all these incidents, the Australian Competition and Consumer
Commission listed the Worx chair’s defect in a recall notice. This notice
warned that the tapering on the inside bottom of the chair legs may lead to an
entrapment or laceration hazard.
Moreover, the Australian Furniture Association
believes that the retailers are selling almost identical products. These
identical products are reproductions of a 1934 designer café chair.
Unfortunately, this means that there are several hundred thousands of these
potentially dangerous chairs in homes and cafes across Australia.
Most of these chairs are replicas, which is not a
product manufactured under license. It can sometimes be at the expense of
craftsmanship and attention to detail as it is aimed at creating likeness. In
addition, these products do not meet Australian standards placing consumers at
a risk of endearing qualities that make an original design safe and great, are
compromised.
